Math: Our math camp will continue double-digit subtraction with borrowing.

This week's math focus:
  • Create, model, and solve problems that involve division (no remainders).
  • Solve division problems with remainders.
  • Begin to understand the relationship between multiplication and division.

April 12-16

Last week Kamryn was our Big Kahuna! Thank you, Laurie and Jared Caldwell for coming on Friday and discussing how to rock climb. The kids were really interested and excited that you came! This week our Big Kahuna is Aliyah!

Last week our Astronomy night was a blast! The students had a great time with rotations and using the huge telescopes were their favorite.

This Friday I will be sending home a testing note with homework. We will begin our big end of the year testing on Monday April 26th and could go through May 7th. During these two weeks please do not be absent. If any parents are interested- I would like to have healthy snacks to hand out during test breaks. This might include crackers, vegetables, fruit, string cheese, granola bar, fruit snacks, juice, etc. If you would like to provide snacks one of these days, please send a note with your child and I will make a schedule. Thanks for all your help!

Science: We will continue to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Writing: Final copy of our narrative paragraphs.

Math: Our math camp will continue this week on double-digit addition and subtraction.

This week's math focus:
  • Use and interpret the multiplication sign.
  • Write two multiplication facts to describe an array.
  • Relate multiplication to the area of a rectangle.
  • Solve problems that involve equal groups.
  • Develop and use strategies for multiplication.

Math: Our math camp focus is double-digit addition and subtraction. Please practice borrowing and carrying at home.

This week's math focus:
  • Read, write, and interpret the symbols that represent fractions.
  • Find one-half or one-fourth of a group.
  • Model two fractions and say which is greater.
  • Identify fractions that are equal.

Fun Times in 2nd Grade

Some college students came in on Friday and did a couple science experiments for the students.



They turned pennies silver and gold.


We had so much fun during our Read-A-Thon!








Our field trip was a blast! After our rotations we ate lunch and played at the park!




We went on a Nature Walk and learned about different animal habitats.




Don't step on logs; there might be creatures living underneath!


We learned about birds.


We learned about the life cycle of a butterfly.

We also saw a huge garden.

March 1-5

Thank you parents for coming to SEP Conferences. I love all your support and willingness to help your child in their areas of weakness.

On Friday, the students earned rootbeer floats for 10 weeks of 100% homework! Keep up the good work!

Our Big Kahuna this week is Nathan Lewis! Happy Birthday Nathan and Anthony!

This week is Dr. Seuss week. We have a lot of fun activities including Teacher Swap, Green Eggs and Ham for lunch, pajama day, read-a-thon, and teacher skits.

Also, Wednesday is our 2nd grade field trip. We are going to Tonaquint Nature Park. Students wear your Coral Cliffs shirt and comfortable shoes. If you signed up to bring a sack lunch from home, please do not forget them. We will send reminders home Tuesday for lunches. Don't be late- buses leave at 9:15. We will be learning about animal habitats, butterflies, birds, and gardens!

Writing: Students will be writing a book review persuading other students to read a certain Dr. Seuss book.

Art: Cat in the Hat

Math: Students will finish up Topic 9 and will review and take the test this week. Keep working on double-digit addition and subtraction.

This week's math focus:
  • Solve problems that involve addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers.
  • Identify the appropriate numbers and operation and use them to solve a story problem.
  • Review and Topic 9 Test.
**No homework or spelling will be given out Friday because the following week is Spring Break!

SEP Week! I look forward to meeting with you this week and discuss the great things your child is doing! School will be dismissed at 1:15 everyday this week.

Big Kahuna this week is Coral! Happy Birthday to Jayden, Dainian, and Coral!

Science Fair Registration Forms need to be turned in by this Friday, February 26th. Please consider doing the Science Fair. It's a great way to get students involved by using their creativity and spark their interest to learn.

Science: Our class has put together a science project. Not to enter in the science fair but just a way to get them interested and familiar with the process. Here's some pictures above showing what we did.

On Friday our school will be having a Magic Show as our reward for getting 100% homework! Also, on Friday I will be adding one more page to homework. It will be a writing page with a prompt. Please have your child write a paragraph and complete the rubric on the back.

Math: Continue practicing double-digit addition and subtraction at home.

This week's math focus:
  • Subtraction with regrouping.
  • Compare objects according to length.
  • Identify the appropriate numbers and operation (addition or subtraction) and use them to solve a story problem.

No school on Monday, February 15th for President's Day!

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day and a good long weekend. Thank you for all returning the field trip permission slips. This Tuesday I will be sending home SEP conference notes. Please sign these and return back as soon as possible to confirm the day and time. SEP week is February 22nd through February 26th. I look forward to meeting with you and giving out report cards.

Thank you, Becky VanLehn, Laurie Caldwell, and Laura Lewis for putting together our Valentine's Party. The students had so much fun! Also, thank you Amber Langston and her mom for coming on Friday and making Valentines with the students. Our contest winners for the best Valentines boxes were Halli and Nathan! Close runner-ups were Kamryn, Kinzie, Philip, and Dainian. Good job guys! The students had a lot of fun with this!

Our Big Kahuna this week is Dainian!

Writing: I will be putting up the students Expository paragraphs in the hall this week if you want to come and take a look!

Science: This week we will be doing a class science project to get the students familiar with the process and to also get them interested. Our project is "How Many Seeds Do Different Types of Fruit Produce?"

Math: We will be finishing up our math camp on money this week.

This week's math focus is:
  • Two-digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping.
  • Estimate the sum of 2 two-digit numbers.

This week is Valentines! We will have our party on Thursday and will pass out Valentines on Friday. Please bring your decorated boxes to school on Friday. Be creative! We will be having a contest.

Language Arts: Prefixes and Suffixes

Writing: We will be making a book about our feelings.

Math: We will continue our math camp on money. Please have students counting a handful of change every night.

This week's math focus:
  • Develop an understanding of the position of numbers.
  • Round numbers to the nearest multiple of 10 or 100.
  • Review and test for Topic 8.
